Cheers! Bono gets generous with the champagne during a Boxing Day trip to the races with his wife and daughters

Christmas brings out the best in people as their generosity and love flows to those around them. Take Bono for instance, who, days after busking in the streets for charity, decided to treat the Irish press to some Boxing Day fizz. The U2 front man was visiting the Leopardstown race course in Dublin with wife Ali Hewson and their daughters Jordan and Eve. Being one of the world's biggest rock stars, he attracts press attention wherever he goes, and today was no exception. And being Christmas, not only did Bono happily stop for photos, but he decided to treat the cameramen to some champagne. The 51-year-old and his wife were snapped outside the race course with a tray of Moet and Chandon which was in full flow. He looked in a great mood as he handed out the fizz and chatted to fans and photographers.

He then headed off to watch some races with his family, who enjoyed Boxing Day with a couple of flutters on the horses. On Christmas Eve, Bono surprised shoppers in Dublin when he joined some musician friends in the city centre for a busking session.

His friend, Oscar-winning musician Glen Hansard invited Bono to join him and Mundy, Declan O'Rourke and Hothouse Flowers rocker Liam O'Maonlai to busk for charity and raise money for two homeless charities. Last week, Bono offered again to tour the world as ambassador for Ireland when he met up with Prime Minister Enda Kenny at a pre-Christmas meeting where he presented the Fine Gael leader with a bottle of rare Mayo whiskey. It was the first private meeting between Bono and an Irish government leader since he became friendly with former PM Garret Fitzgerald in the late 1980s. The Taoiseach's spokesman said a 'wide range of issues' were discussed at the meeting where Mr Kenny had asked all staff to vacate the room.
